Maureen FitzSimons's early accomplishments in the performing arts, that we now know by the name of Maureen O'Hara, would certainly be a qualifier to being in the "child prodigy" category. However, for a child of Irish origin, and surrounded by gifted parents and family, they had innate talents. Maureen entered this loving refuge in Ranelagh, Ireland on August 17th, 1920. Marguerita Lu. FitzSimons was a successful contralto. Charles FitzSimons ran a Dublin company, and also held shares of the Irish soccer team Shamrock Rovers. Maureen was the second of six FitzSimons children - Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen excelled at sports and enjoyed playing rough sports. She combined this interest with an equally natural aptitude for performing. This was demonstrated by her winning pretty much every Feis award for drama or performances in the theater that her nation offered. The Abbey Theater was her first choice.
